Explore School Expense Resources
School Expenses
Tuition is only one part of the cost of attending school. This guide breaks down the other expenses and the kinds of resources that may help with each.
Textbooks and course materials
Check whether your course uses open educational resources, whether the library holds a reserve copy, and whether rental or used options are allowed.
- Ask instructors about older editions
- Search the campus library catalog
- Compare rental and digital access prices
School technology
Many campuses lend laptops or hotspots. Some internet providers offer reduced price plans for qualifying households. Confirm terms directly with each provider.
Transportation
Look for student transit passes, campus shuttles, and local reduced fare programs. Some schools include a transit fee in tuition.
Basic needs
Campus food pantries, emergency funds, and housing support offices exist at many schools. They are usually separate from grants and may have their own request process.
